Osijek vs Dinamo Zagreb by Dwofl

Its GW3 in Croatian football and top tier teams are starting to feel the weight of Europa League and Champions League qualifications on their backs. Rotation is the name of the game as we look at the last, and most interesting, match up of GW3: NK Osijek - GNK Dinamo Zagreb.

A new era has dawned for NK Osijek after the Hungarian takeover in 2016. and they seem to be doing something right as NK Osijek are coming off a historic away victory against a giant in PSV Eindhoven. A balance of aggression, high pressure and a strong defensive line are what brought NK Osijek that huge win. As mentioned, rotation is what EU qualifying teams have to deal with and NK Osijek is no different as they rested most of their strike force (Bočkaj, Ejupi, and Grezda) in their last away game against Istra 1961. All three players came off the bench to salvage a late 85min (Bočkaj) goal and taking home a modest point. The team depth might become an issue later on in the season if they manage to reach the EL group phase. All in all, 2 games and 2 draws for NK Osijek against fairly weaker opponents.

GNK Dinamo Zagreb is a club every tipster knows as 10-time Croatian champions and the official UEFA Champions League punching bag. Looking to restore former glory and prove Zdravko Mamić's words that last season's shame won't repeat itself in the near future, Dinamo Zagreb seem to believe in their squad depth as they rest fewer key players than NK Osijek. Hodžić, Soudani, Fernandes and Čorić featured in all games so far including the 4:0 thrashing of Cibalia in the last GW, as well as against Norwegian side ODD. I don't see them being rested for this difficult away game.

Goal difference:

Osijek 2:2

Dinamo Zagreb: 6:0

Motivation is never an issue for any team when facing Dinamo Zagreb, and Osijek's victory against PSV will probably drive Dinamo Zagreb to make a point with an important away win. Going into this game I expect a 90min dog fight of two good sides but I don't think it be a crowd pleaser. NK Osijek are a tough host for any team and while both sides might end up scoring I don't see it going over 2.5 goals. Dinamo Zagreb don't concede very often and NK Osijek's defense line has been tested hard and it held up against a side like PSV Eindhoven.

That said, I'm going with a Under 2.5 goals bet for this one. Good luck!
