The hosts are quite euphoric after accumulating 4 points in the first 2 rounds when they had to face 2 title-contenders: CFR Cluj at home and Dinamo away. FC Botosani drew 1-1 in the first round with CFR Cluj, in a game where they dominated possession stats but even had more chances. Their good play was confirmed the next round where they managed the shock of the round winning on Dinamo Bucharest's ground, in a game where they also had some good chances. We must admit Dinamo had some rare misses in that game, but FC Botosani showed off as a tough opponent, with a nice open play using a 4-2-3-1 formation.
Today they will receive the visit of a newly-promoted team, for the first time ever in Liga 1. Sepsi Sfantu Gheorghe has reunited players from relegated teams and also average players that have played in the first division in the past. A funny thing is that this year's 2 promoted teams into Liga 1, both Juventus Bucuresti and Sepsi, have directly promoted after previously being promoted from the 3rd into the 2nd division! So they came from Liga 3 to Liga 2 and directly occupied the first 2 spots! That's an alarm signal for the low level of the second tier.
Sepsi was defeated in their first round, 0-1 at Astra, in a very low-quality game, but they managed a 2-1 win against Juventus last week, on home soil. Low quality game, as well, goals appeared in the 62nd minute and then 2 of them in the injury time.
I really don't understand the odds here, but i think the home win should be a banker. The odds on home victory are above 1.7 and i must admit i was expecting 1.5-1.6! Botosani has a full squad for this one, even winger Mihai Roman will be back in the team after serving a 2-match ban from the last match of the previous season. Golofca and Morutan are talented youngsters that Botosani have already atracted the interest of the best Liga 1 clubs for. Sepsi's main striker, Attila Hadnagy, is an old experienced player, who made the move directly from Botosani. The public has respect for him, but i also expect his former players from Botosani to know how to anihilate him.
I am expecting a total home domination here and i prefer the odds on -1 Handicap on Botosani as i see them scoring today. If they win they will be the new leaders, with a game in hand, obviously. Their fast wide-play will cause a lot of trouble to the newly-promoted.
