AEK Larnaca vs Dinamo Minsk by Hassy
AEK Larnaca have progressed through to the third knock out round by Lincoln Red Imps and Cork City. In the four games against these two ultra minnows their games only saw over 2.5 land once and that was in a home game against the Maltese part-timers.
Infact, if you go back to AEK's last ten matches you will notice that the Red Imps game was the ONLY time that a match involving the Cypriot side went over 2.5 goals.
Generally their league campaign which saw them finish runners up was based on a solid defence which only conceded 28 goals in 36 games. Coming up against a European side which they would see as slightly worse they will be confident in keeping a clean sheet and thus avoiding a crucial away goal to their opponents.
Minsk will come into the game in Cyprus worried by the heat. Temperatures hit 48c yesterday so expect a game to be played in a slow pace, which will suit the away side. Their first thought will be not to lose the game rather than anything else and they will see an away goal as a bonus. In their previous Europa League game they drew 1-1 to a side from Macedonia so that suggests that they are not a major attacking force who will look to force the game and take it to Cypriot side.
Prior to beating Rabotnicki, in round two Minsk managed to over a side from the Faroe Islands. Yet again the match away from home saw their game go under three goals as they managed a 0-2 win.
Overall, with the heat playing a major factor in this game I expect Minsk to play to avoid a defeat, the Cypriots playing with their main priority to not concede an away goal but with the hope of taking a lead over to Belarus. Expect a dull, low scoring affair which tends to be the case where Cypriot sides compete in Europe.
