Botev Plovdiv vs Maritimo

Europa League - Qualification

Botev Plovdiv are probably the only Bulgarian team currently showing promise on the European scene. The team with one of the most passionate fanbases around here always provides and interesting European games. The previous time they played in the Europa League they reached the same round but fall short against Stuttgart following a 1-1 draw at home and a goalless draw in Germany. This year the team dispatched Partizani Tirana with 3-1 away victory followed by a narrow 1-0 at home. The previous round they faced Beitar with everyone touting the Israeli team as favourites. Botev got a bit lucky the first game to get a 1-1 draw but the second they showed class with 4 straight goals. Nikolay Kirov so far has made Botev play an entertaining attacking football with lots of pace. The team usually plays in a 4-1-4-1 formation with both wingers in the faces of caprain Todor Nedelev and Krum Stoyanov having almost free roles. The team plays its European games on Lazur stadium in Burgas which is approximately 250km from their home. Still their amazing support is always there for the team. Botev have won 6 out of their 7 Europa League games on Lazur.

Maritimo are a sturdy team which benefits from strong and organized defensive line. They finished 6th last season and got qualified for Europe by Benfica winning both the cup and the league. The team plays pragmatically operating as a whole unit giving little to no space to the opposition. Their balance may be a little shaken as the team has 11 new players most of them with Brazilian origin. They may speak the same language but still need time to adjust and settle into the team. Nevertheless their main players from last season are here to help in that manner Ricardo Valente, Edgar Costa, Zainadine are all still here. The team has far from impressive away record in the Europa league though. From their overall 16 games on the road Maritimo has won 4, lost 9 and drew 3.

This is a rather even game between two teams having different philosophies. Botev are playing fluent attacking football while maritime prefer keeping it tight at the back. Usually when Botev plays I go for the over goal markets but this time they will have trouble breaking Maritimo’s defensive line. Still at home Botev are favourites to start well. They may not knock Maritimo out in the two legged fixture but at home they have their chances. My pick here is 1 0.0 AH for 2.20 at Unibet. Good Luck!

Plovdiv are huge favourites today. Marítimo arrived 2 days after they wanted to arrive to Bulgaria, as the weather conditions in Madeira, Portugal island, was not allowing the team to travel.
Maritimo's coach Daniel Ramos said it was really sad and a bad moment for this to happen and would unfortunately have impact on today's game against Plovdiv, as the players had less hours to rest and to know plovdiv's field.
