Seattle vs San Jose EQ by PatrickBateman
Seattle are 6th in Western Conference with 27 points. They have been playing hot and cold this season, but their home form has been solid. They are coming here after a historic comeback, which saw them beating DC United. DC won the first half 2:0, and when they scored third goal in 50th minute it looked like there was no turning back for Sounders. However, Seattle stepped up, and in a space of 27 minutes managed to score 4 goals, making the final result 4:3. That win was surely a confidence builder, despite the fact they conceded 3 goals against the worst attack in the league. The bad news for them is that they will have their attacking trio unavailable, as Dempsey and Morris are on international duty while Lodeiro is suspended after picking up red in the last game. Also, Alonso is out injured, while Frei and Wingo are questionable.
San Jose are 7th in Western Conference with 26 points. They have been in good form lately, losing only twice in the last eight outings, winning five. However, their road form has not yet improved, and their last two trips finished as heavy losses. Especially heavy was the last one when they lost in NY against Red Bulls 5:1. It was a one-way street from the beginning, but until 73rd minute, the result was only 1:0 for the hosts. However, after that we saw a real goalfest, with Red Bulls completely destroying Earthquakes and recording their most convincing win of the season. Silver lining for San Jose will be the fact that their newest addition Qazaishvili scored on his debut. San Jose will be without many missings here - Urena is still on international duty, while Sarkodie, Pelosi, Cummings and Colvey are injured.
Seattle`s solid home form and San Jose`s bad away form should make the hosts favourites here. However, missings of some of their key players will make their job hard. San Jose improved their offensive game, while their unstable defence is still making it hard for them. The same can be said about Seattle, who failed to keep clean sheet in each of their last seven games. Also, when you concede three goals at home against the worst attack in the league, something is wrong. Therefore, I don`t think anybody will manage to keep their net intact here. Last seven Seattle`s games saw both teams scoring, as did last six San Jose`s. Also, both head-to-head meetings this season saw goals from both sides, and I see the same scenario here. San Jose improved their attack, Wondolowski is in good form, and signing of Qazaishvili is looking spot on, and while Sounders are missing their whole offensive line, I don`t see San Jose keeping them at bay in Seattle. Therefore, both teams to score looks like a right way to go.
