Whitecaps continue to surprise as they went to Stubhub Center to beat LA Galaxy 1-0. They survived some scares in the first half and some good goalkeeping by David Ousted kept them in the game. A set piece with a header by Tony Tchani sees them get another three points as they now sit 4th in the western conference.

Portland Timbers poor run of form continues as they lost 4-1 to Real Salt Lake. The loss of their first team players due to the Gold Cup and injuries has certainly hit that them hard. In the thrashing, they will lose another two players (Fanendo Adi and Victor Arboleda) due to red card suspension.

Portland will again be without Darlington Nagbe, David Guzman, Alvas Powell, and Darren Mattocks as they are all still in the Gold Cup. Liam Ridgewell, Amobi Okugo, and now Chance Myers are long term injuries. Vytas, Marco Farfan, and Diego Chara are all doubtful. As for Whitecaps, their major absentee will be captain Kendall Waston who is still with Costa Rica. With Canada being knocked out of the Gold Cup, they will get a couple of their players back, most notable being Alphonso Davies, probably the most impressive Canadian at the tournament.

Whitecaps will know there is no better opportunity to continue their climb up the table. Timbers isn't the best road side and could be missing up to at least 8-10 first teams and squad players and Whitecaps (who has a habit of being too passive at times) should really be going for all 3 points.
