Baltimore vs Houston Astros by Sors

The Baltimore Orioles will give the ball to Ubaldo Jimenez (4-5 with a 7.01 ERA) in the opener of their three-game set with the American League-leading Astros at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

The 33-year-old Dominican continues to struggle, as Jimenez has allowed four or more earned runs and lasted less than six innings in each of his previous three starts this month. In the last of them, on July 16, he gave up a season-high 11 hits and 6 runs while walking one and striking out two over 3 2/3 innings of a 0-8 home loss to the Cubs.

In six home contests this season, Jimenez has a 1-1 record and a 7.80 ERA.

In the matter of fact, the veteran right-hander threw six solid innings in his last start versus Houston, in which he yielded 2 runs on 5 hits and struck out five batters of a 4-8 loss at Minute Maid Park on May 28.On the other hand, he’s posted a 4.09 ERA in four appearances (three starts) against the Astros prior to that game.

George Springer (1-for-12 with four strikeouts) and Marwin Gonzalez (2-for-12) have struggled against him, but Jake Marisnick has 2 hits in 3 at-bats off Jimenez, Josh Reddick is 8-for-19 with a double and a solo home run, Evan Gattis is 4-for-11 with a double, a two-run home run and a walk, Carlos Beltran is 10-for-28 with three doubles, 3 HR, 7 RBI and four walks, Norichika Aoki is 4-for-12 with an RBI-double and a walk, Jose Altuve is 6-for-21 with a double, triple, an RBI and a walk, while Brian McCann is hitting .238 (10-for-42) against Jimenez, but with a three-run home run and three walks.

The Baltimore Orioles have averaged 10.33 runs in the last three games of their four-game sweep of the Rangers, but I think that they might have problems in offense tonight, given the fact that Mike Fiers (6-4 with a 3.75 ERA), who will start for the Astros, is in much better shape compared to early season, as the 32-year-old went 5-2 with a 2.50 ERA in his last nine outings, compared to a 1-2 record and a 5.21 ERA over his first nine starts in 2017.The seventh-year major-leaguer yielded 4 runs on 8 hits and struck out eleven over twelve innings in his last two road contests, a 5-1 win at Oakland Coliseum on June 21 and a 2-7 loss in Toronto on July 8.

In addition to that, Fiers threw seven solid innings in his lone start against the Orioles, in which he yielded 5 hits and 1 run of a 12-2 win at Orioles Park at Camden Yards on Aug. 20 of last year, with seven strikeouts.

Welington Castillo, Ruben Tejada, Seth Smith, Adam Jones and Mark Trumbo are hitting .133 (4-for-30) against him, with eleven strikeouts.

I think that the Houston Astros will manage to win the opening game of the series.
