In this European U21 Championship Poland will face Sweden at Arena Lublin.
Poland are hosts of this tournament so they didn`t have to go through qualifications. They have been pretty good in their friendlies overall, even though they have recorded all losses since March. They lost to Italy and Czech Republic in friendlies, as well as to Slovakia in their first game of this tournament. All three defeats were 2:1, and the latter one was pretty gutting for them, since they entered the game as favourites. Poland took the lead already in 1st minute via Lipski, but Valjent levelled the score twenty minutes later. Both teams had their chances, but Slovakia were more clinical and in 78th minute they got a lead which they managed to keep till the end. That defeat put Poland in a very hard position, and they will have it even tougher without their key player Bartosz Kapustka who is unlikely to play having suffered an ankle injury.
Sweden have stormed through their qualification group, winning it in front the likes of Spain and Croatia, without suffering a single defeat. They are also current champions of this tournament, and even though the team is different, coach is the same. Hakan Ericson has been doing his job very good, demanding disciplined and organized football which makes the team very hard to beat. On Friday they played 0:0 with England in the opening match of the tournament. It was a pretty interesting game, with number of chances from both sides. Neither team really dominated, but both teams could`ve taken the victory with a little bit of luck. Sweden had the best opportunity of the game in 81st minute when they were awarded penalty, but Pickford managed to save Wahlqvist "Panenka" attempt which was poorly executed. In the end the teams took point each, which is not a bad result, even though Sweden will certainly feel they could`ve edged the game.
Poland are hosts here, but that didn`t help them much against Slovakia, who are probably the weakest team in the group. Also, Sweden looked pretty good in their game and they should have the slight edge here. Ericson lost only one competitive game in two years with Sweden U-21, which is astonishing considering that the younger selections are ever changing. Sweden`s style of play ensures them getting into chances almost regularly, while keeping their defence solid, and Poland will have a tough task beating them here. Only the first team from each group is sure to progress, while three out of four best second-placed teams will also secure quarterfinals. Therefore Poland should be searching for a win here in order to keep their chances alive. Sweden will also be searching for a victory, but having collected point already, they don`t need to go all out attack. Sweden is surely more organized team, and since Poland should adopt a more open approach here, Sweden should be able to take advantage of that. Even though the draw is realistic outcome in this match, I believe Sweden are closer to victory, and therefore I will back them with 0 asian handicap.
