Monaco vs Dortmund by MarcLonsain
Dortmund will visit Monaco tonight to make up for a 2-3 loss at home in a game that should not have been played as we all know. Despite of the loss, Dortmund actually did not play bad at all under the circumstances. Monaco countered towards the victory in this match where especially the second half the pressure of Dortmund was huge. Dortmund managed to score in all of the last 15 away games but one and they will surely score here. It will be hard to go through as Dortmund have conceded 3 away goals in the first leg. This means that they should win with at least 0-2 and that they will have to play offensive from the start. Dortmund can take some confidence to this one from the match against Frankfurt (12). They showed more quality in this game and won quite easily. They even got the chance to rest some players like Castro, Ginter and Dembele. Also Reus only played one half. Bartra will still be out for this one as are Schürrle, Götze and Mor, which brings us to the possible line-up.
Bürki; Schmelzer, Ginter, Papastathopoulos, Piszcek; Weigl, Reus, Dembèlé, Castro, Pulisic; Aubameyang
Monaco are in the best spot for the next round, of course. The have got 3 away goals which means that even a small loss would mean that they are through. But they should also know that last game was tight and that they did not really deserve the win based on the entire match. Monaco played Dijon(19) this weekend at home and that did not go quite as easy as they had hoped for. They game behind in 42’minute and needed Lemar and Falcao in the second halve to repair the damage. They did succeed and won 2-1, but it was a close one. Monaco are extremely strong at home, but Dortmund is really something else. Monaco will miss the same players as in the first leg plus Fabinho who is ruled out. This will be a huge miss as well. Bokayoko will most likely return for Monaco.I don’t say that Monaco won’t go through because I do see them score actually. But I don’t think they will win this one, as they don’t have to (1-2 would be enough to go through).
Possible line-up Monaco:
Subasic; Mendy, Glik, Jemerson, Touré; Lemar, Bakayoko, Moutinho, Silva; Falcao, Mbappe
So basically I think that we will see a recovered Dortmund who will dominate the game with attacking football and a defensive Monaco. Dortmund will be fully motivated after everything that happend last week. Dortmund already showed the better football in the first one and will be even better this one. Also Reus is able to play again, he missed the first match. Monaco does have the attacking qualities to score at least one goal.
So my pick will be Dortmund to win and over 2.5 goals!
Good luck tonight!
