Southampton vs Manchester C. by PatrickBateman
Southampton are 9th with 40 points. They don`t have a chance of rising up or falling down the table, and they are destined to finish in the middle of the table. They have been in mixed form lately, having won last two games. They beat Crystal Palace at home, and WBA away in the last match. It was a game in which Southampton were a better team for the most of the game. Clasie gave visitors the lead in 25th minute, and that was the score at half-time. After the break Southampton continued to be a better team, with the hosts waking up at the very end. However, WBA could`ve scored in stoppage time, since they had two good chances. But Forster was concetrated and secured three points for his team. Austin, Targett and van Dijk are out due to injuries, Romeu is suspended, and Davis, Boufal and Gabbiadini are questionable.
Manchester City are 4th with 61 points. Last week they broke a run of four competitive games without a win with their victory against Hull at home. The game looked exactly as expected, with City dominating the game since the very beginning. It was 1:0 at the half-time, with the only goal coming after Elmohamady put the ball behind his keeper`s back. After returning from the break, they quickly increased their lead via Aguero in 48th minute. Delph added third in 64th, but Ranocchia denied the hosts a clean sheet, with his goal coming in 85th minute. With that victory City got back on track on their quest for Champions League, and will be eager to continue that quest here. They will have to do that without Gabriel Jesus, Gundogan and Sagna, who are all injured.
City are coming as favourites here, but it won`t be a stroll in the park for them. Southampton pulled off two good performances in the last two weeks, and should have something to say here. Even though they have not been unbeatable at home, they have been scoring regularly, and City will probably have to outscore them if they want to get three points here. Result is going to be more important for the visitors, but Southampton surely won`t lack motivation coming against the top team. With City in need for three points, and Southampton having luxury to play relaxed, I see this being a quite open game. Neither team has solid enough defence, and both teams are capable of scoring. Therefore I think that no matter the outcome we will see goals from both sides with more than two of them being scored.
