Augsburg vs Koln by PatrickBateman
Augsburg are 16th with 29 points. That is the same amount as 15th-placed Mainz and a point less than 14th Wolfsburg, meaning they are still capable of avoiding relegation. However, they have been in bad form recently, having lost four and drawn two out of the last six league matches, including home loss to Ingolstadt. Last time out they lost on their trip to Hertha 2:0. Hertha completely dominated in that game, leaving Augsburg without a shot on goal. It was all over in the first half, with Brooks scoring in 12th and Stocker in 37th. After the break, we were watching similar game, with Hertha slowing down a little bit but still getting into chances. Augsburg didn`t have an answer, and Hertha managed to get out of their mini-crisis. Bobadilla, Framberger and Gouweleeuw are out beacuse of injuries, while Callsen-Bracker, Moravek and Stafylidis are questionable.
Koln are 7th with 40 points. They are only one point behind Freiburg and three behind Hertha, who are holding Europe League spots. They haven`t been in particularly good form recently, having won two out of the last ten league games. In the last game they lost at home to Monchengladbach 3:2. It was a game in which Koln were trailing two times, but quickly came back. Vestergaard gave visitors the lead in 13th minute, but Clemens levelled in 18th. That was the result at half-time, and after the break Traore found a net in 55th minute to gave Monchengladbach another lead. Modeste equalized only three minutes later, but in the end visitors managed to get a deserved victory with Stindl scoring with ten minutes to go. For this game Koln will miss injured Risse and suspended Hartel, while Guirassy and Rudnevs remain questionable.
This is a clash between a team which is fighting to avoid relegation and a team which is trying to get into Europe. Koln are a more quality team, and Augsburg are coming after a series of bad results. Also, Augsburg are one of the worst home teams in the league, and therefore their home-field advantage shouldn`t be a decisive factor here. However, they have been scoring regularly in front of their fans, and it usually took visiting teams couple of goals to beat them. Koln have been involved in a high scoring matches away from home lately, but they struggled to get results, having won only one game since November. Since both teams are in need of three points here, we should see attacking intent from both sides. Koln remain more quality team, but Augsburg have a chance here, since Koln are not in good form. With all that being said, and taking into account recent trends of both teams, I think there is a good chance of us seeing goals from both ends, and the odds of 2.00 are surely worth a try.
