Stoke City vs Hull City by PatrickBateman
Stoke are 13th with 36 points. They are eight points above drop zone, which means they have not yet secured survival. They are also on a run of four straight losses, having only two wins in the last eleven league games. At home, the picture does look a little bit better, even though they lost last two matches at Bet365 Stadium. However, those losses came against Chelsea and Liverpool - both 2:1. Against Liverpool they put up a pretty good performance, especially in the first half, when they limited Liverpool to virtually nothing. They got a goal just before the half-time, which was the fair reflection of the first half. In the second half Liverpool stepped up their game, but Stoke also had couple of chances. It was 1:0 all the way until 70th minute, when Liverpool scored two goals in a space of two minutes via Coutinho and Firmino. In the end, visitors managed to snatch all three points, inflicting Stoke with their second successive home defeat. Allen, Afellay and Ireland will be unavailable due to injuries, while Walters will probably be ready.
Hull are 17th with 30 points. Since Marco da Silva took them over, Hull started to record some good results. However, the one thing that da Silva couldn`t turn around has been Hull`s away form. They are second-worst team in the league on the road, having collected only five points. Also, in the last fourteen competitive matches they have thirteen losses and one draw. In the last game they lost to Manchester City 3:1. City completely dominated the game, and deservedly got their win. They got the first lead in 31st minute, when Elmohamady put the ball into his own net. In the second half, the story continued, and the hosts added two more with Aguero scoring in 48th minute and Delph in 64th. In 85th minute Ranocchia managed to score, only to lower the hosts` winning margin and make it final 3:1. For this game Hull will miss Elabdellaoui, Mason, Meyler and Keane - all injured.
Despite recent struggles, Stoke are coming here as favourites. They have been a lot better at home than on the road this season, and they are yet to secure their survival. They couldn`t have wished for better opponent to try and break their bad run, as Hull have been below any standard away from home. Hull will have to put up quite a fight to stay up, but if they continue to collect points like they have recently, they might just do that. However, here they will have a tough task coming against the team which is hungry for victory, and which is not that easy to beat on their ground. Hull`s terrible away record in addition to Stoke`s improved performance in their last game makes me think that Stoke should have the edge here. Therefore, I will pick Stoke to win, as I believe they will manage to grind out three points in what should be a close match.
