Wolfsburg vs Ingolstadt by PatrickBateman
Wolfsburg are 14th with 30 points. They are only one point above drop zone, and their latest performances did not make their job of staying up easier. They have only three wins in the last twelve competitive games. However, two of those wins came against Hoffenheim and Leipzig, which are third and second placed team respectively. They are currently three games without a victory, having lost in their latest outing when visiting Schalke. It was a one way street from the beginning, with Schalke getting an early lead via Burgstaller in 6th minute. Goretzka added another one in 23rd minute, and Schalke went on a break with a comfortable lead. In the second half, it was pretty much the same story, and the hosts managed to score two more, before Gomez converted a penalty to give Wolfsburg consolation goal. The game finished 4:1, which gave Wolfsburg a lot to think about coming into the end of season. They will be missing injured Benaglio, Bruma, Ntep and Rodriguez, while Dejagah and Trasch are questionable.
Ingolstadt are 17th with 28 points. After a tough period for them, they stepped up their game, and got three successive victories. It seems like the expression "When the going gets tough, the tough get going" really can be said about them. Their latest victory came against last-placed Darmstadt, in a very interesting game with a lot of turn-arounds. Ingolstadt got the lead first, but Darmstadt managed to turn around the result right before the half-time with two goals from Vrancic. However, Ingolstadt entered the second half decisive to get three points against weaker visitors, and managed to get the lead in a space of four minutes, with Cohen scoring in 68th and Suttner in 72nd minute. They stood tough till the end, and got three vital points. Bregerie will miss out due to suspension, while Hartmann is injured.
This is a "six point" match between two teams who are fighting to avoid relegation. Wolfsburg are coming in bad form, while Ingolstadt put up their best run of the season in recent weeks. Wolfsburg are not really a home team, while Ingolstadt don`t have problem when playing away from home since almost half of their points came on the road. Therefore, this game should not be seen through "home team-away team" perspective. Neither team is defensively solid, and while Wolfsburg have been one of the worst teams in the league by goals scored, this game should be a margin call for them. Ingolstadt on the other hand, have found a net in five out of the last six games, with their only scoreless defeat coming against Dortmund in a game in which they had couple of good chances which they didn`t take. Both teams will be looking for win here, since both are in danger of relegation, and that should bring us an interesting game. Maybe it won`t be the most open game, but I think that both teams have what it takes to get themselves on the scoresheet in search for three points.
