Stoke City vs Liverpool by PatrickBateman
Stoke are 12th with 36 points. They have been in bad form lately, managing to grab only two wins in the last ten league games. They are on a four-game run without a win, during which they scored only one goal. In the last game they lost to Burnley 1:0. It was a tough game, and a pretty dull one, with neither side having clear chances. In the end Burnley grabbed a win in their typical fashion, with Boyd scoring in 58th minute after a cross from Hendrick. That loss added to their attacking woes, since their only goal in the last month came from the penalty. For this game they will be without long-injured Ireland and Butland, with Shaqiri being questionable and Walters likely to play.
Liverpool are 3rd with 60 points. Their form rose in March, and they managed to record some good results - most notably wins against Arsenal and Everton. However, on Wednesday they played 2:2 with Bournemouth at home. Liverpool were a better team in that match, which was expected, but Bournemouth once again showed their teeth and stood unbeaten against them for the second time this season. Visitors got the first lead in 7th minute via Afobe, but Coutinho levelled it up in 40th minute, after a period of Liverpool`s pressure. After returning from the break, hosts continued in the same fashion and it paid off for them, when Origi found a net in 59th minute. After that goal, Liverpool slowed down the tempo, playing cautiosly. And it backfired on them, as King scored in 87th minute, after a bad reaction from Liverpool`s defense. Mane, Henderson and Lallana will miss this game due to injuries, while Coutinho could play if he recovers from illness in time.
Despite recent bad performances, Stoke have been pretty solid at home, while Liverpool have been having trouble on the road lately. Stoke`s form in front of the goal has been abysmal during the last four games, but Liverpool kept only one clean sheet in the last twelve competitive games. Stoke will be desperate to turn around their fortunes, and they know they have a chance against defensively vulnerable Liverpool. On the other hand, Liverpool have to be winning regularly if they want to keep their Champions League spot, and they will surely be looking for three points here. Therefore goals from both sides look inevitable here. That selection has paid off in the last six Liverpool`s games, and the odds of 1.80 carry value, especially since they have been dropping steadily, with some bookies offering that selection at as low as 1.67.
