Brighton vs Birmingham by GlacialSpirit

Round 40 of the English Championship starts on Tuesday. At the Amex Brighton takes on Birmingham City.

The hosts are currently the only team who can catch up Newcastle at the top. After Huddersfield slip up last game the team has gained a 9 point gap over the 3rd place. This basically means that the team is up for automatic promotion. The only thing to fight for now is the title. They are 1 point behind Newcastle and it’s all in their reach. Chris Hughton’s boys narrowly edged Blackburn last round while Newcastle won 2-1 against Wigan. At the Amex the team is in tremendous form. They are by far the best home team in the league having most points, most goals scored and least goals conceded. Brighton have only conceded 11 goals in their 20 home games so far. Shane Duffy remains sidelined for the game while Goldson, Murray and Baldock are all struggling to overcome their problems and are not ready for full 90 mins.

Birmingham sits on 18th place just 6 points above the danger zone. Their form very inconsistent with lots of ups and downs. They finished all of their last 3 games with a draw and lost the previous two. That makes it 5 games in a row without winning. Overall Zola has managed to get only 2 wins from 20 games. The team has a decent defensive line but struggles greatly up front. Only the bottom 2 teams have scored less goals than The Blues and Gianfranco Zola needs to improve his team on that. The only absent player for his team will be entre-back Michael Morrison as he recovers from groin surgery.

Brighton have won 6 out of those two teams previous meetings. With their very impressive defensive record and Birmingham’s problems up front I can’t see the Blues scoring unless a huge individual mistake happens. Therefore my pick here is for Brighton to win and BTTS: NO for 2.40 in bet365. Good Luck!
