Estonia hasn`t got a good record lately. They managed to record only one victory in the qualifiers, beating Gibraltar at home 4:0. Also, they got a win in friendly game, but it was against Antigua and Barbuda, and it was only 1:0. Aside from that, they lost 5:0 to Bosnia and Herzegovina, 8:1 to Belgium, and 2:0 to Greece, while they played 1:1 in friendly game against St. Christopher and Nevis. In the last qualification game they played 0:0 in Cyprus, which was actually a positive result from them, since they were outsiders. Their home record is not bad, but every time they played against stronger teams, they would lose without scoring a goal. Still, they will be as motivated as ever in this game, as they will play for their pride.
Croatia has been good lately, recording five wins in a row while keeping clean sheet. They are coming after a 1:0 win against Ukraine at home, which saw them extending their lead in the group to three points in front of Iceland, and five in front of Ukraine and Turkey. Croatia was dominating in that game, and they could`ve won by more had they taken advantage of all their chances. For this game they will be without Subasic, Modric, Rakitic, Mandzukic, Nikola Kalinic and Brozovic, who didn`t travel to Estonia. But Ivan Perisic will captain the team, as Cacic called him up, even though he was suspended for Ukraine game.
Croatia are clear favourites here, even without their best players, as Estonia is at least two classes beyond them. Croatia has a tendency to play friendly games against weaker teams, which causes a lot of questioning from the domestic media, and therefore coaches always try to approach the game as serious as possible. It`s the same story with players, as they always give their best in national jersey. This game will be no different, and Perisic`s call up emphasizes that. He is one of the hottest prospects in Europe at the moment, and he is being called up only to face Estonia in friendly game. And he takes that call-up with a pride. Therefore, Croatia still has to be considered favourites, since the players who get their chance will be motivated and eager to prove themselves. They should line up similar to a Northern Ireland game in November. They won that game 3:0, and we all know how hard it is to win in Northern Ireland. Estonia always stands tough at home, but Croatia should have more than enough to record a win here, despite being without best players. Croatia`s victory should be a convincing one, but considering the situation, I will take them with a -1 asian handicap.
