Germany vs England by PatrickBateman
Germany have been successful in their recent performances. Since Euro, they haven`t conceded a single goal in six games - four qualification games and two friendlies. They won five of them, drawing only against Italy in friendly match. However, the other teams were a really weak opponents, and England should be a different kind of test for Germany. Neuer will be absent due to calf problem, and since Germany has a trip to Azerbaijan on Sunday, which could be a tricky affair, Low will likely name a mixed squad. This will be Podolski`s last game in national jersey - his 130th, and therefore we will see him on the pitch, maybe even from the start. Also, Leipzig`s in-form striker Timo Werner could make his national team debut.
England has also had a pretty successful campaign under Gareth Southgate, beating Malta and Scotland, while drawing with Slovenia (all three qualifiers games) and Spain (friendly). Aside from draw against Slovenia, which they should`ve lost in reality, their performances have been pretty good. They even had a 2:0 lead against Spain all the way until 89th minute, when Aspas pulled one up, before Isco scored deep in stoppage time to make it 2:2. Kane is injured, and as his replacement Southgate called up Defoe. But Vardy should be the one to lead the attack. England has a home match against Lithuania on Sunday, which should be an easier fixture than Germany`s. Therefore, there is a strong possibility that Gareth Southgate will name his strongest squad available.
Germany vs England has always been a classic, and even though this is just a friendly, both sides will be motivated. Last time these two met a year ago in a friendly, England won 3:2 in Berlin. Germany was leading 2:0 until 61st minute, but Kane, Vardy and Dier turned around the game to give England a sweet victory. Germany has been vey good defensively, but the sides they were playing against are nowhere near England in terms of quality (aside form Italy). And since Low is likely to bench his best players, or at least substitute them at half-time, there is a strong chance England could brake their lock. On the other hand, England`s defense is far from stable one, and even though they kept a clean sheet in all of their qualification fixtures, game against Spain showed all of their flaws. Also, Hart is coming from a terrible performance against Inter, and Forster hasn`t been in much better form this season. Therefore, both teams to score seems likely here, especially with this being a friendly game.
