Norrie vs Demoliner
ATP Auckland Qualification
Norrie(276) had a very good 2016 winning 32 matches and losing just 11 with 27 of these wins coming on hard court surfaces. He was consistently beating players of a similar ranking by 2 sets to nil such as Opelka(204), Krawietz (299) and most recently beat Duck Hee Lee(149) 2-0 on the 3rd January. This good run of form sees him currently placed at his highest ranking ever and at just 22 he seems to have a bright future on him at least on the challenger scene. Also the three times he has played this tournament he has won 2-0 at this stage of qualifying against players similarly ranked to his opponent today.
Demoliner(1231) is a player who also used to boast a top 300 spot in the rankings but has slipped away drastically in recent years having only played 22 games in the last three years. Demoliner used to get most of his success on clay where between the years of 2006-2012 he played about 3/4 of his games on the clay court surface. His most recent excursion onto hard court was the Tashkent challenger in October of last year, where he got knocked out in qualifying in straight sets by Vasilenko(649). This was the only hard court event he took part in last year.
Overall, with Norrie's ever improving form and Demoliner seemingly slipping down the other way, this seems like an inevitable and comfortable win for Norrie.
