Sydney Sixers vs Hurricanes by Rahul
The Sydney Cricket Ground entertains a game between 2 teams that should be in the mid-table throughout the season but take on each other early in this game between Sydney Sixers and Hobart Hurricanes.
The SCG sees a lot of big scores generally from teams batting first, and then depending on the quality of the chase, you could see a game with a lot of fireworks. Last year games at the ground saw:
277 runs (6 sixes, 21 fours) - Sydney Sixers v Hobart Hurricanes
282 runs (6 sixes, 18 fours) - Sydney Sixers v Melbourne Stars
318 runs (10 sixes, 28 fours) - Sydney Sixers v Brisbane Heat
358 runs (17 sixes, 28 fours) - Sydney Sixers v Sydney Thunder
When we look at the 2 teams you can see that they have both strengthened to improve their scoring moving forward. Sixers have signed up Jason Roy (28 Avg, 144 SR) and Sam Billings (20 Avg, 122 SR) who are 2 heavy scorers on the T20 circuit. Additionally their batting is beefed up by captain Moises Henriques, veteran Brad Haddin, new Australian Johan Botha and young Daniel Hughes who will look to do the bulk of their scoring. Last year they finished rock bottom, but still finished with an average scoring of 155 runs per innings.
The Hobart Hurricanes were just above them in the table last season in 2nd last, but will be looking at a far improved performance with their core batting lineup. They have international veteran Kumar Sangakkara who will be looking to improve on his poor showing from last season, while Dan Christian, George Bailey & Tim Paine are the experienced heads in the squad. Hobart are relying a lot on youngsters who haven't played a lot of domestic cricket like D'Arcy Short and Beau Webster along with experienced domestic players like Jonathan Wells, Dom Michael and Simon Milenko to beef up their middle order. While their team doesn't look too strong on paper, the talent that they have shown in the few games that they have played has let Hobart rely on them to back them on scoring.
This should promise to be another highly entertaining game like much of the BBL06 has already shown to be. The instructions from what we gather so far is that boundaries are to be brought in far shorter than regulation, so I expect a lot of runs to be scored here tonight.
