Hamburger vs Schalke by PatrickBateman
HSV are currently on 17th place in Bundesliga with 10 points. It has to be said that 8 of those points came in the last five games. After the whole season without a win, they connected two clean sheet wins before losing to Mainz on Saturday. The other positive thing for them is that they have been scoring regularly lately, finding a net in their last six successive games. As a matter of fact they scored 10 goals during that run, which is great for a team that scored only two in previous nine games. They are showing improvements in all areas of play, but will have to push even more if they want to stay up. They will miss injured Adler and Halilovic, who doesn`t play anyway.
Schalke are 11th with 18 points. After twelwe competitive games without a loss, they fell into a result crisis. They are currently on a four-game winless run during which they recored three loses. In those four games they scored only two goals, and while Europa League game against Salzburg didn`t mean anything to them as they already secured progress, home loss 1:0 against Leverkusen surely hurt them. On Saturday they had to come from being down to get a point against Freiburg at home. It was a dull game without a lot of chances, and 1:1 was the fair outcome. For this game they will be without injured Embolo, Geis and Huntelaar.
Schalke are slight favourites for this game, but it is going to be very tricky for them. HSV have improved lately, and loss against Mainz shouldn`t rattle them too much, as they are aware of their position and that losses are inevitable. They should instead be still encouraged by their wins against Darmstadt and Augsburg, even though those are not top teams. But neither is Schalke this season. They have put up a good run during October and November, and progressed form Europa League group stage, but their position tells us that it was just making right their terrible start of the season. They have been looking similarly bad lately, but they will be determined to go on a winter break with a win. But HSV will be tough nut to crack, and with their good recent scoring run, they should cause problems for the visitors and find a net. Also, even though Schalke have scored only four goals on the road this season, and lately they have been less than deadly in the offensive third, they should make their mark against one of the league`s worst defenses, which concedes two goals per game on average. With all that being said, I think that the odds of 1.80 for both teams to score are tempting, and I will take them.
