Redskins vs Carolina Panthers by PatrickBateman
In this Monday Night Football Washington Redskins will host Carolina Panthers.
Redskins are third in NFC East, which is one of the best divisions this season. However, they still have realistic chances for playoff, via wild card game, and they will do everything what`s in their power to deliver. After two back-to-back losses against Cowboys and Cardinals, they beat divisional rivals Eagles in Philadelphia 27:22. Redskins have improved their running game lately, but Panthers should neutralize that. Therefore their main weapon should be their QB Kirk Cousins, who has been very good this season. His main weapon are long and precise passes, or "bombs" in american football slang. He tortured Packers` secondary with those throws and he should be able to do that here also. Panthers` secondaries are consisted of two rookie CB`s, who naturally lack experience, and they really miss Josh Norman, who now plays for the Redskins. He knows Cam Newton well, and even though Redskins are not particularly good in stopping run nor pass, but they are ranked fourth in sacks. Since Panther`s offensive line has allowed 19 sacks this season, they should take advantage of that. When talking about their noticeable missings, they will be without defensive linebackers Compton and Cravens.
Panthers are last in NFC South with a 5-8 record, and they don`t have a chance for playoffs. They are not a shadow of the last season`s team, mostly because of uninspired Cam Newton. He is struggling this season with accuracy, and even though he connects well with Kelvin Benjamin lately, it is still not on last season`s level. But since he is Panthers` second-leading rusher with 317 yards, he should take advantage of Redskins missing their defensive LB`s. One thing in which they should have the edge is Greg Olsen, one of league`s best tight ends, especially knowing that Redskins have problems containing tight ends. The positive news for them is that their one of their best players - LB Luke Kuechly, has been cleared from the NFL concussion protocol, but he is still questionable for tonight`s game.
Redskins have four straight home wins, while Panthers have won only one on the road this season - against Rams 13:10. Redskins have realistic chances for playoffs, and they are a lot better team at the moment. Also, they are playing in front of their crowd, where they thrashed Packers last time out. That was almost a month ago, and they will surely want to come back in style. They have a game in Chicago next week, before hosting Giants. Therefore with this win everything will be easier for them. It`s going to be a cold night in Washington, and Cousins looks like he will have less trouble with the conditions than Newton. Considering the curent state of the teams, and trends when looking at their respectable home and away records, Redskins should prevail here. They probably won`t repeat Seahawks` thrashing of Panthers 40-7 in Panthers` last away game, but they should win with at least one touchdown difference. The spread line is set exactly there and I will take it. Redskins to cover the -6.5 spread.
