Bears vs Packers by PatrickBateman
In this NFC North fixture Chicago Bears will host Green Bay Packers.
Bears are last in this division, without any chance for playoffs. They have 3-10 record, beating Lions, Vikings and 49ers, all at home. Wins against divisional rivals Lions and Vikings are worth attention, against 49ers not so much. Their home record is 3-3, but losses against Jaguars, Titans and a convincing 29:14 loss against Eagles show us their unstabilty. QB Matt Barkley will make his fourth season start, and he wasn`t that bad in his previous performances. Also, their WR Alshon Jeffrey who was suspended, is returning for tommorow`s game. In the first game against Packers he had caught just three passes for 33 yards, but he will surely be a big addition to Bears` offense. However, they will miss their other two wide receivers, as both Marquess Wilson and Ediie Royal are out due to injury.
After a bad run of four losses, Packers have responded with three solid wins in a row, the biggest one being at Lambeau Field last week when they blew out Seahawks 38:10. With that run they stayed in contention for a wild card, and even maybe divisional top, especially if Lions lose Giants clash. Aaron Rodgers was great during that run, even though he had hamstring problems. But more importantly, Packers` defense has been great, allowing only 36 points in those three games. Rodgers has calf problem now, and he didn`t practice this week, but as he led his team to a 38:10 victory with a calf problem, there is no reason it should stop him here. Since Lacy and most probably Starks will not be available, WR Ty Montgomery should also be running back, but that should be no problem, as his stature enables him to be efficient in that postion.
This will be the coldest game played in Chicago ever, with expected temperature being from -16 to -22 degrees Celsius, with inevitable wind. But as we`ve seen in the last two games at Lambeau Field, Rodgers doesn`t mind low temperatures, nor snow. Packers have won 14 out of 18 games against Bears with Rodgers as their QB. Also, in his last five games against Chicago, Rodgers had 1,334 yards with 17 touchdowns and only one interception, completing 67 percent of his passes. He is still officially listed as questionable, but we know he will play. He is hardly going to come out limping, because if he played whole game against Seahawks (he got injured in third play of the game), and played it masterful, there is no reason he won`t do the same here. Barkley won`t be able to follow him, firstly beacuse he is yet to play in these conditions, and secondly because he is not Aaron Rodgers. Bears might have a slight edge on RB position, not because their rookie Howard is something special, but because of Packers` situation in that position, but that shouldn`t be the deciding factor. It`s true that Bears` defense has been improving, but so has Green Bay`s. Packers have everything to play for, and since they play against Vikings and Lions in the last two Weeks, they hold the keys to the playoffs in their hands. It is going to be a tricky and probably low scoring game, but Packers have found their game and they surely have what it takes to beat below-average Bears. Packers to cover the -5.5 spread.
