Yesterday one of the Polish sports sites released a set of scanned documents, which casts a light on Ruch illegal practices. It appears that for few years they were hiding a part of their financial debts, to gain a license to play in Ekstraklasa. Long story short - in order to get a license to play in Ekstraklasa, Polish clubs have to prove that they have no overdue liabilities during a yearly license process. If they are not meeting this requirement, they can be fined, or relegated. Ruch used some affiliated entity to provide part of the funding, which is not forbidden, but should be reported, and they didn't do it. Now, they face a real threat of serious penalties, including -10 points, which would be painful considering they are on last position in the table. And if they go down, they are as good as dead, without money from TV rights.
According to the current information at hand, final decision should be made on 20th December, so after the Wisla game.
Now I think it will be tough to play with a potential bankruptcy lingering over your head, especially that the Ruch's financial problems and delays in salary were not a secret.
However, even taking that aside, Ruch is playing pretty bad recently. Out of last 10 matches, they lost 8, and this weekend they have lost once again, this time to their rivals from the bottom of the table Wisla Plock, with a hockey scoreline 3:4. 3 goals scored looks nice, but 4 goals conceded, including one from the halfline doesn't and it's a real problem for them this year - defence. They just can't find a reliable keeper, and they already lost 37 goals in 19 matches.
Wisla on the other hand lost only once during the last 10 matches, and they have regained their balance after suffering some club problems on their own. Now they have decent team, they are aiming for the top half, and victory here will secure them this position throughout winter break, no matter what. They have the quality required to do so, they played not-bad match vs Cracovia, even though they got only one point.
For me, one thing is clear. Wisla is a better team here, and Ruch would have problems getting points here even without any additional problems they just got. But they have them, and with all that, I think Ruch will face and insurmountable challenge here. Still, it's Polish Ekstraklasa, so you can expect the unexpected:)
