Freiburg vs Wolfsburg by Chilltkroete
However, the “construction” or “project” Wolfsburg around manager Allofs and coach Hecking backed by the VW company seems to have failed: Gomez, Luiz Gustavo and Draxler are very unsatisfied and have called out for a transfer as fast as possible for weeks, Hecking was fired two weeks ago, the former coaches of players like Bruma (former HSV) and Blaszczykowski (former Dortmund) did see them as not good enough for the Bundesliga and transferred them to weaker leagues. Above, Wolfsburg has a lot of problems due to injuries this season: Jung, Vieirinha, Bruno Henrique and Guilavogui have been out for weeks now. Knoche and Draxler are both out for today due to injuries and creative midfielder Didavi will return today yet he has not played a single game for weeks.
Hecking as well as the new coach Ismael had to change their defensive line every single game due to absences. Ismael himself is not a high class coach yet was not a world class player. He was coach of the second team of Wolfsburg and was not able to bring this team further than midfield with a high potential squad of ambitious young players. That says a lot about his way of coaching.
Wolfsburg was not able to win one of the last 8 games in Bundesliga (3 draws / 5 losses) and were only able to score 4 goals while 13 goals were scored against them in these games. Especially on the road Wolfsburg is weak and toothless. The last two games were lost against Bremen and Darmstadt – two of the weaker teams in this league.
Freiburg on the other side plays a fresh, effective and fast forward way of football. At home they won every single game this season so far. Streich seems to have a solution for every situation and loves his young players like a father: In the first game at home they came back from 0:1 against Gladbach playing a terrific second half. Streich pushed his boys forward, motivating them as much as he can. Against Hamburg and Frankfurt they were very disciplined and used their strengths when it came to free kicks and corners. With Vincenzo Grifo they have probably one of the best players for corners and free kicks in their squad. In their offensive line they have a young Maximilian Philipp literally exploding this season while having a backup like Petersen on the bench. Niederlechner is also getting better game per game. All of them profit from the way Streich treats his players. Their defence is more than solid this season (only 2 goals against them at home) and young Stenzel and Günter bring enough pace and precision from the wings to make their offensive game broader and more variable giving Grifo in the middle enough space. Except Guede Freiburg has no absences that will lower their quality today.
I cannot see Wolfsburg gaining a single point here due to their form, the missing offensive (Draxler and Didavi) as well as defensive (Guilavogui, Vieirinha and Knoche) quality. Ismael seems to young for this situation full of pressure and I cannot see a real plan to flip the switch in this game. Freiburg seems so solid and fresh at home. The can play without any pressure.
I expect a victory for Freiburg here. If you want a more risky bet go for a -1 AH for Freiburg yet I will choose a victory for Freiburg. 1:0, 2:0 or 2:1 are possible here.
