Stan Wawrinka had a pretty successful last several weeks. Winning US Open, and beating Novak Djokovic in the final, reaching final at St. Petersburg, were unfortunately he lost to Alex Zverev, but Zverev was really at the top of his game, and Stan I think was a little bit surprised with Zverev's game level in that match. He played his first match in Shanghai today, beating talented Kyle Edmund in straight sets. On hard courts, Wawrinka is pretty clinical this year, winning 26 of 31 matches on this surface.

Gilles Simon is a player whose gameplan for each match is build on the consistency in rallies. That often worked in the past, but this season is not the best form him, and on hard courts he is just 13W and 11L, and seeing him few times this year, he wasn't in his top shape.

Nevertheless, with Wawrinka serving capability, and his aggressive gameplan, I think that Simon's defensive tactic can be too short for current US Open champion.
