Seattle vs Texas Rangers by Sors

Taijuan Walker (4-10 with a 4.60 ERA) takes the mound for the Marines in Thursday’s finale of their four-game series against the visiting Texas Rangers.

The 24-year-old right-hander is obviously far from his best shape lately, as he’s allowed four or more earned runs in three of his last four starts, including 6 hits and 6 runs (five earned) over 2/3 innings of a 3-10 home loss to the Angels last Saturday.

In addition to that, Walker was hammered for 6 runs over five innings in his last start versus Texas on June 3 (3-7) and is 1-2 with a 5.00 ERA in five career starts against the Rangers.

Mitch Moreland (2-for-13) and Carlos Gomez (1-for-6) have struggled against him, but Adrian Beltre is hitting .538 (7-for-13), with three doubles, a homer, 8 RBI and a walk off Walker, Rougned Odor is 5-for-10, with a homer and 2 RBI, Ryan Rua is 2-for-3 with a walk, Ian Desmond is 2-for-6, Delino DeShields is 2-for-7, while Elvis Andrus has 3 hits in 11 at-bats in their matchups.

Texas counters with Derek Holland (7-6 with a 4.57 ERA), who is coming off three straight quality starts, as the 29-year-old southpaw yielded 14 hits and 4 runs, while walking four and striking out twelve over eighteen innings of a 0-3 loss at Cincinnati on Aug. 23, against the Indians on Aug. 28 (2-1) and in a 12-4 home win against the Astros last Saturday.

Holland went 2-1 with a 3.38 ERA in his previous three starts versus Seattle this season, but had obvious problems in the last of them, in which he gave up 5 hits and 5 runs (including three homers) over five innings of a 5-7 loss at Safeco Field on June 10.The left-hander has posted a 3.75 ERA over his last ten starts against the Mariners.

Adam Lind is 6-for-15, with a homer, 6 RBI and a walk against Holland, Dae-Ho Lee is 3-for-8, with 2 HR and 4 RBI, Robinson Cano is 16-for-45, with three doubles, triple, 2 HR, 9 RBI and three walks, Chris Iannetta is 9-for-26, with a double, home run, 4 RBI and four walks, Nelson Cruz is 5-for-17, with 2 HR, 4 RBI and two walks, while Seth Smith has 3 hits in 11 at-bats off him.

The Texas Rangers have scored six or more runs in nine of their last eleven games (8-3), while the Mariners have .292 BA, with 53 runs and 13 HR from the last eight (3-5).

I expect more than eight runs in that game.
