Brest vs Clermont by Alcuni
Brest took a lucky point in their last trip at Sochaux and remains leader after 5 rounds. With 3 wins and 2 draws, Brest has now 11 points, 1 more than new promoted Amiens. But at Sochaux was a strange game: Sochaux made somehow 2-0 right after the break, despite letting Brest to have the ball and dominate the game. Sochaux defended well at 20-25 m, without letting Brest to jeopardize young GK Prevot buts. Brest made a huge mistake: they play the ball in Barcelona’s style trying to put the ball in the net from 6-8 m, instead trying to use long distance shots, having in front of them an inexperienced goalkeeper. They should benefit of a penalty and red card for Sochaux defender near to 65 minutes, but referee was too blind. The luck of Brest coach Furlan, hit again, Brest leveling at 2, scoring twice in injury time, thanks so some distance shots (Maupay and Monrose). Really I expected more from an attacking minded team we saw in previous 3 rounds, but nah it’s OK for Brest they didn’t lose against a top team from this league. Defenders Belaud is injured while Diallo is suspended
After a slow start of the campaign, with only 1 point after 3 games, Clermont took 3 consecutive wins (2 in championship + 1 in cup) and are now on track. After first away win of the season 1-0 in front of a mediocre Auxerre, they took now first win at home, in championship, beating 2-1 inconsistent Ajaccio. Was a first half slightly controlled by Ajaccio, who led 1-0 at HT thanks to a nice goal. In second half Ajaccio made step back, trying to conserve the fragile advantage, but Clemont scored twice in interval of 2 minutes and took an important win. Once again they proved to be a strong home team since Corinne Diacre took the lead few years ago. Enzo Realle is no longer Clermont player. Even Boulaya is injured and missed since the start of the season he was transferred (at Bastia Ligue 1) and now Corinne Diacre remained without her best attacking compartment she had in previous season. Striker Busin wasn’t called up. As a statistics fact will be the game no 500 played by Clermont in Ligue 2.
Under Furlan, Brest is much offensive than in previous seasons. Both games ended in over with both teams involved scoring. Also Clermont is playing offensive for most of the time so possible to see another game with goals and both scoring. gl
