Bolton
VS
Southend
I’m quite confident about this one.

It’s certainly been a brilliant start for Bolton. New manager Phil Parkinson has completely turned around the fortunes of the team after last years pitiful.

Bolton is rock solid defensively (I can’t remember when they were suck reliable at the back in past seasons). Only worry is offense, where they lacked creativity, but Parkinson bring in 5 new players in transfer deadline and players like Sammy Ameobi and James Henry should be absolute destroyers on such level so Bolton added some much needed quality on the wings. They won 4 from 5 and will be aiming to make it 5 from 6.

Southend is different story. It seems Phil Brown doesn’t know what he is doing. After poor start he expressed that squad is thin on numbers, so he needs much more players but on transfer deadline Southend was quite silent and Brown said: “I was hunting for quality, not quantity”. Hmm. Over the summer United lost TOP 3 performers: Daniel Bentley (43/0) moved to Brentford, young goalscoring midfielder Jack Payne (32/9) left at the end of his contract to move to Huddersfield Town, while David Worrall (35/3) left for Millwall on a free transfer. They also released a large number of players as we looked to try and improve the squad. However, it really hasn't happened.

Nile Ranger has looked a good signing, helping us to a win over Sheffield United but ruled out with injury for long term. Mark Oxley, the new goalkeeper, showed just how good Daniel Bentley was and the lack of a Jack Payne replacement is clearly shown in recent performances. On deadline day Southend added to a large defence with Ryan Inniss. However, positions where they are more in need such as midfield, on the wing, attacking midfield and striker, Southend will have to go short until January. They not so solid defensively as well, as struggle a lot defending set pieces. Fans are very angry with head coach transfer policy and results so I can't see how Phil Brown will still be in the job come October.

Ranger (1/0), Michael Timlin (0/0) and Anthony Wordsworth (0/0) are definitely out, while Stephen McLaughlin (5/2) and Ben Coker (5/0) are both doubts with niggles.

As I said earlier, I’m quite confident about this one given how teams performed in opening rounds.
