Sochaux vs Brest by Alcuni

Sochaux – Brest

Derby of the round will take place Monday night and will bring face to face the most in form teams of the moment: Sochaux will host Brest.

For Sochaux will be the 3rd consecutive game in front of their fans, after a goalless draw in championship against Orleans and a win 2-0 in Coupe de la Ligue against Brest. At least in championship Sochaux had difficult times, finishing both game 0-0, against Valenciennes and Orleans. But if against Valenciennes they were the better team and had plenty of chances to score, Orleans made their life difficult, having a very good first half. After the break Sochaux pressed a bit, missed only 2 good chances but had no solution to break well organized Orleans defense. A fair result. In coupe de la Ligue coach Cartier rotated in only 3-4 positions but was enough to knock out Brest who also fielded a team with about 7 starters. Bad new for them main GK Werner will miss few months due to a nasty injury, so they will have between the stick a young and inexperienced goalkeeper who can cost them. Also important midfielder Berenguer is slight injured and will not be forced here, while youngsters Thuram, Onguene and Ruiz (last 2 didn’t played a game so far in championship) are called up at NT. Striker M. Sao is back in team.

Under Furlan, Brest is a completely changed team compared with previous seasons. Playing a nice attacking football, they put accent on attack, forgetting some time to defend in proper conditions. This was happened in previous games when conceded 4 times: 2 in championship and 2 in coupe de la ligue. Against Valenciennes we saw a nice attacking football with 5 goals, some of them quite beautiful (especially the 3rd goal scored by Battocchio in 90 mins). Valenciennes tested them a lot but finally they come up and won this game against a team who didn’t concede a goal till this game. In coupe they played better than Sochaux but when they looked they have the potential to come back in game (Sochaux opened the score just before the HT following to a corner) a childish fault made in the penalty area, by experimented Diallo, put an end to their hopes, penalty followed to this fault being converted by Robinet. Anyway Brest in this new season seems not like it to play at 0-0 on the road. In two difficult trips they didn’t concede yet, GK Hartock having a major role in this fact.

For sure now will be a different game than the one played in previous game in coupe de la ligue. With Hartock, playmaker Gourgi and Maupay upfront Brest will be for sure stronger. I think the odds for an away win is way too big. And there is another fact: in previous season when Brest had a good period 0-0 against two promotion contender Dijon& LeHavre, they played against Sochaux a team in desperately need of points. As I anticipated at that time Sochaux easily won 2-1. This is what I’ve wrote after the game: “In previous round they (Brest) lost, as expected 1-2 at Sochaux, after a game which appear something like “no matter how many Brest will score, because Sochaux will score one more””. So just wonder “payback time” for that win who gave a breath of air for Sochaux (a simple math say without these points Sochaoux would have played in National now). Have no idea but why not. Brest +0.25 is a good bet but I’ll take Brest to win (at least we will finish the “masterpiece” from this round lol) gl

when you have a kid in front of you in the goal and you don't test them at all till injury time with long distance shots then you have no reason to think about a win.
I think difficult time will come for Sochaux if they will not find in these latest transfer days an experimented goalkeeper.
for statistics amateurs latest 0-0-10 was somewhere in November 2015 in 13rd round in previous season:)
a well-deserved break now till 9th of September
