Jake Peavy (5-9 with a 5.55 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Giants in the second game of their three-game series with the visiting Atlanta Braves.

The 35-year-old pitcher yielded 1 run on 8 hits and struck out eight batters though six innings in seven relief appearances in August, before surrendering 5 hits and 5 runs (including two homers) over two innings against the Mets last Saturday (5-9).

Peavy has been pretty inconsistent so far this season, as the right-hander has allowed four or more earned runs in ten of his previous 21 starts in 2016.He hasn’t made it through the sixth inning in eleven of those twenty one outings.

In the matter of fact, the veteran right-hander yielded just 1 hit over seven scoreless innings in his last start versus Atlanta on May 31 (4-0) and is 2-0 with a 2.00 ERA in four starts against the Braves over the last three years, but I think that he might have bigger problems tonight, not only because he is definitely not in his best shape this season, but also because Atlanta shows better efficiency in offense compared to early season.

The Braves were shut out for the 12th time this season in Friday’s series opener (0-7), but have .284 BA, with 49 runs and 8 HR from the previous seven games.

Peavy has fared well against Freddie Freeman (1-for-8), Tyler Flowers (1-for-7), but Ender Inciarte has 5 hits in 16 at-bats off him, while Nick Markakis is 7-for-23, with a homer, 3 RBI and three walks.

Atlanta counters with Mike Foltynewicz (6-5 with a 4.55 ERA), who posted a 5.48 ERA in eight starts after the All-Star break.

The 24-year-old right-hander gave up 9 hits and 4 runs despite striking out seven batters over six innings in Monday’s 8-9 loss at Chase Field and is 5-4 with a 5.14 ERA in ten road contests in 2016.He hasn’t made it out of the sixth inning in eight of those ten outings.

Foltynewicz pitched six solid innings in his last start against the Giants, limiting them to 3 hits and 1 run of a 5-3 win at Turner Field on May 30.On the other hand, he went 0-1 with a 5.68 ERA in two starts versus San Francisco prior to that game.

Eduardo Nunez has 2 hits in 4 at-bats off him, Brandon Belt is hitting .444 (4-for-9), with two solo home runs against Foltynewicz, Brandon Crawford is 3-for-7, with 2 HR, 3 RBI and a walk, Buster Posey is 2-for-6, with 2 HR and 4 RBI, while Joe Panik has 2 hits in 6 at-bats in their matchups.

I expect more than eight runs in the second game of this series between the San Francisco Giants and Atlanta Braves.
