Viktoria Plzen vs Ludogorets by GlacialSpirit

Last step before the Champions League Group Stage. Viktoria Plzen takes on Ludogorets Razgrad trying to overcome difficult deficit of 2 goals.

Viktoria Plzen are far from impressive so far in the competition. They played poorly the first leg and Ludogorets managed to take their chances. Even qualifying for this round was hard for the Czech Champions as they struggled against Qarabag only qualifying after an away goal scored late in the second half of the return game. Plzen defensive line looks shaky. Not only that but they lack creativity in midfield making it hard for them to create an actual scoring chances. Head coach Roman Pivarnik ignored Viktoria’s last game in their league to keep the team fresh for the upcoming tie with the Bulgarian Champions. This resulted in a 0-2 home defeat against Zlin making the things around the club even worse. So far the only player missing this game looks to be centre back Marian Cisovsky who is still recovering from infection.

Ludogorets progressed to this leg after firstly defeating Mladost Podgoritsa with a comfortable 5-0 aggregate score and then dramatically knocking out Crvena Zvezda after two draws with a score of 2-2 and two extra time goals on Serbian soil for the 6-4 aggregate win. Last game they also played well avoiding costly mistakes and securing 2 clean goals advantage. They possess a lot of creativity in their midfield allowing their sharp strikers and wingers to take advantage. Their only weakness is that their defense looks prone to making costly mistakes sometimes. This was particularly true against Zvezda last round as the Serbian side managed to surprise the defense quite a lot of times. I expect head coach Georgi Dermendzhiev to instruct his team to play deep exploiting every single chance for a counter attack. Ludogorets are having a fully fit squad for the tie as even central defender Igor Plastun served his suspention.

Viktoria failed to win in 5 out of their last 6 games at home while Ludogorets has lost just 4 of their last 19 trips away. Also Ludogorets won both their previous meeting with Viktoria with 2-1 in a friendly and 2-0 last game. I expect Ludogorets to hit Viktoria on the counter with their sharp attacking players. My pick for this game is Viktoria Plzen clean sheet: NO.
