Sporting Gijon had to battle till the end in last season to avoid relegation and it looks like this could be the same. A couple of important footballers have left the team in summer - Luis Hernandez, Jony, Bernardo, Mascarell, Halilovic or Sanabria. There are a few new players - Due Cop, Amorebieta, Moi Gomez, Lillo, Xavi Torres or Victor Rodriguez. In general, Sporting seem to have now more experience, but the overall quality isn't probably higher. For this match three players are unavailable (Rachid, Ndi, Lora).

Athletic Bilbao seem to had good pre-season, they've faced many strong teams. They didn't have to play in Europa Leauge qualifications which is a good thing for them. All important players stayed at the club. For this match Aketxe and Mikel Rico are unavailable, but in general visitors have comfortable situation with the squad.

In my opinion visitors have more quality and they are the favourites of this match. As usually, there were very few changes in Bilbao's squad so they don't need time to adapt new players, on the contrary to

Youngsters - Mascarell, Sanabria & Halilovic were ver y inconsistent last year. As you said, more experienced team this year but imo not less quality. Moi Gomez, Burgui, Victor Rodriguez and Cop are good players, with some experience in 1st división (Halilovic & Mascarell haven't that experience at the beggining of the season). El Molinon is a tought one, although Athletic Club won past year, but early in the season was hard form Madrid and Valencia win there. Good test for basques.
