!! OLYMPICS ATHLETICS 200m WOMEN !!

Elaine Thompson is favorite to win the 200m in athletics at Rio after her gold medal on the 100m in 10.71s. Dafne Schippers finished 5th on the 100m in 10.90s. According to the coach Schippers had an injury, they dont say much about it to not give too much information on the opponents, but the injury should not be a problem for the 200m they say. After the 100m, the odds for 200m changed, Thompson dropped and Schippers raised.

Before the qualifications started Schippers was favorite for 100m (@~1.60) and 200m (@~1.40). The 200m is the better number for Dafne, Schippers won gold at the WC Beijing 2015 in 21.63s before Elaine Thompson in 21.66s. Schippers finished second in 10.81s at Beijing after Fraser-Pryce in 10.76s on the 100m (E. Thompson didnt attempt in the 100m at Beiijing).

When we take into account the possible injury and the performance on the 100m, the odds for Dafne Schippers are probably right. Still, I think Dafne Schippers has the best chances to take the gold on the 200m. Its her better number (see odds before qualifications 1.40 vs 1.60), Schippers has a very strong second 100m, so the influence of a bad start is less decisive on the 200m then the 100m. (after about 100m at Brussels 2015 Schippers was behind Allyson Felix (gold London 2012 and 3 times WC in 200m), but in second part she passes Felix easy; at Beijing Thompson had also a strong start but Schippers could pass her after Thompson died a bit in the last meters). I think the injury isnt that bad, in the 100m Schippers had a bad starting position (#8) and we saw she also didnt start good.

The odds for Schippers went down a bit lately, since last night she went on Marathonbet from 2.65 to 2.35.
