Aston Villa vs Rotherham by FP

Roberto Di Matteo has a big job on his hands to turn around the fortunes of Aston Villa after their shocking form in the Premier League, and his first two games could not have gone much worse – losing 1-0 to Sheffield Wednesday in their first Championship game before being embarrassed by League Two side Luton 3-1 in the EFL Cup.

Di Matteo has overhauled the squad this summer and brought in quite a few new names, players which should do well in this division. I do expect them to finish high up the table, certainly top 4, and if the game was later in the season when everyone was match fit then I would bank on Aston Villa beating Rotherham.

Rotherham persuaded former Hibs boss Alan Stubbs to take the reins this summer after Neil Warnock left his position, but he does not have much of a squad to work with. He has brought in a few names but no names that most fans would be familiar with so I fear for their Championship status this season. It may be a mad rush for Rotherham to bring in more first team players close to transfer deadline day, in which case they aren’t quite ready for this game.

The attacking quality in the Villa team should come to the fore here against a Rotherham team that are likely to sit with five at the back for most of the game as their wingers tuck in. I expect chances and I expect Villa goals.
