Arsenal vs Liverpool by GlacialSpirit
Home side Arsenal had a good pre-season. They played 5 games winning 4 of them with the last two being trashing over Viking with 8-0 and 3-2 win against Premier League rivals Manchester City lead by Pep Guardiola. Despite the good pre-season Arsenal is in injury crisis even before the season starts. Captain Per Mertesacker along with fellow central defender Gabriel are both with long term injuries. Wellbeck and Jenkinson are also on the list with even longer time out due to injury. That makes 3 defenders and a striker. Adding the absence of Euro 2016 participants Giroud, Ozil and Koscielny due to given prolonged rest, the list goes to 4 defenders, 3 of which are central and the 2 main strikers. The good news is that new arrival Granit Xhaka is ready to play and will probably start along Coquelin and Santi Casorla in midfield. The attack will be lead either by Walcott or Iwobi. The biggest question is who Wenger will choose to play at centre back. With the 3 main central defenders injured the only available ones are extremely inexperienced Rob Holding and error prone Callumn Chambers. Other options include placing either Debuchy or Monreal in the heart of the defense.
Liverpool played 9 pre-season friendlies winning 6 and losing 3. The losses came against Chelsea, Roma and the heavy 0-4 loss to Meinz in the last game. One win particularly impressed though as Liverpool beat up Barcelona with Messi and Suares with 4 goals to 0. Liverpool lead by Klopp spent heavily this year bringing Sadio Mane and Georginio Wijnaldum. Still they also have some injury problems despite being smaller than Arsenal’s. Milner was injured against Barcelona along with Dejan Lovren who will be in doubt for the season opener. Sturridge is also a doubt struggling to be ready in time. Another one who will miss the opener is Sakho making the things in Liverpool defense even worse. With 2 central defenders missing the game and Skrtel with Kolo Toure leaving the club Liverpool like Arsenal looks to have crisis in their defense. Ragnar Klavan is set to start in the heart of Pool defense with the second central defender probably being Joel Matip.
Having in mind the rich history of high scoring dramatic games between those two teams and all the defensive issues I think this game will be an open one with loads of goals and scoring chances. Therefore I’m placing my bet on over 2.5 goals and both teams to score.
