Lepchenko vs Johanna Konta by Tennisguy
Lepchenko is a lucky loser here after not making it past the qualif. rounds after losing to Kudryavtseva. Even so after getting to the main stage with a LL card she defeated Naomi Broady, a very difficult opponent who is very tall and has a a powerful serve and very hard groundstrokes. Lepchenko hasn't had the best year so far but she has the necessary tools to do well in this kind of tournament. Today she will be facing Konta, who has had a good run in the past weeks. Konta has won the Stanford tournament and so far in this tournament she defeated Shelby Rogers and Vanaia King. Against King she did show signs of fatigue especially on her serve and given that Lepchenko is a much better returned she might have problems.
The match overall I see as being quite close. I believe a lot of long rallies will be played and to me the player who is more fresh will have the advantage here. Given that I think Konta will show signs of fatigue in this match I am going with the underdog to produce a surprise here. Hopefully Lepchenko will yet again take advantage of the LL card she received and advance another round.
