Mexico vs Chile by 3Lions
Mexico did good in their group, and were through to the quarter final after two of three group stage matches. Thanks to a late equalizer against Venezuela in the last game, they just avoided meeting Argentina in this quarter final. However, they are facing Chile, who has improved game by game during the tournament. The mexicans are in outstanding form, and before the draw against Venezuela, they had won six games in a row. Javier Aquino is the only missing player due to an injury.
Chile came in to this tournament with a long strike of defeats, and that continued in their first game against Argentina (2-1). They won the last two games against Bolivia (2-1) and Panama (4-2). Ahead of this game Eugenio Mena is injured, and Mauricio Isla is suspended.
Two teams who likes passing the ball in a high tempo and play with a high pressure. Mexico were already ready for the quarter finals when they played against Venezuela, so they could take the luxury of rotating the whole team, giving their key-players a chance to rest. The decision was made with thoughts on this match. Chile did not have that possibility, so I think their players might be slightly more tired.
Many experts has questioned the motivation of the Chilean side, making marks on how they seem unfocused and not willing to make the extra effort. On the other side, the tournament has now reached the knock-out stages and throughout history, many teams have stepped up a level and showed their quality.
I belive this will be a entertaining game with chances to both sides, but I fancy Mexico as favourites since they did rest important players in the last game, which I think will tip the game in their favour.
