Portugal vs Iceland by Cobbyj
This is icelands first ever appearance at the championship and I am sure they will want to make a huge impact.
Portugal bosses had to unfortunately sack Paulo Bento after the disappointing exit from the 2014 World Cup and opening defeat to Albania in the Euro 2016 qualifying campaign.
The team have since experienced some problems in warm-up matches as the head coach was searching for the best possible formation for the team, but things have now seemed to fall into place ahead of the main contest.
The manager has overcame the lack of attacking strikers by playing wingers Ronaldo, Nani and Quaresma in those forward positions and that seems to have been an ideal solution when you see the results against Belgium and Estonia.
The Winger from Besiktas showed real attacking poise in matches against Norway and Estonia, and he is now pushing for a place in the starting line-up.
Iceland are far from impressive at the moment, it is hardly surprising that Portugal were made 1.62 / 1 favourites which has now dropped to 1.5 / 1.
Iceland surprised everyone with some excellent performances in one of the toughest groups in the Euro 2016 Qualifying, and they eventually secured their maiden appearance at the Euros, which was an achievement in itself. The Nordic side did astonishingly well, to finish above both Turkey and Netherlands, although the team have largely struggled in international friendlies.
Iceland has lost no fewer than 6 games in 9 since qualifying and as a result, their fans can only hope that the team suddenly find the form that they showed in the qualifiers and the Portugal game will be the ultimate test.
I don't think this game will be a white wash in the favour of Portugal, but I do think they will win. Also with the odds shortening since yesterday, I feel they are a good bet.
