Josh Tomlin (7-1 with a 3.79 ERA) takes the mound Saturday night as the Cleveland Indians seek their fourth straight win in June.

Tomlin is coming off his worst starts of the season, in which he gave up 9 hits and 8 runs (four earned) over 3 2/3 innings of a 2-9 loss to Texas on Monday.

The 31-year-old right-hander has allowed four or more runs in four of his last seven starts, including 7 hits and 4 runs in six innings of a 5-4 win over the Royals on May 8.

He’s posted a 4.67 ERA in five starts at Progressive Field this season and what is even more important to be noted: Tomlin went 2-3 with a 6.18 ERA in his last seven starts versus Kansas City.

Omar Infante (0-for-5) and Kendrys Morales (1-for-8) have struggled against him, but Salvador Perez is 11-for-17, with five doubles, home run and 6 RBI off Tomlin, Lorenzo Cain is 6-for-16, with two doubles and 2 RBI, Jarrod Dyson is 5-for-14, with two triples and an RBI, Alex Gordon is hitting .275 (11-for-40), with three doubles, triple, 2 RBI and three walks against Tomlin, Alcides Escobar is 7-for-28, with three triples and 4 RBI, while Eric Hosmer is 5-for-22, but with 2 HR and 4 RBI in the matchup.

The Kansas City Royals, who look to avoid a third straight loss in this series, will give the ball to Ian Kennedy (4-3 with a 3.03 ERA).

The right-hander pitched well in most of his previous ten starts this year, surrendering two or fewer runs in eight of those ten outings, including 4 hits over seven scoreless innings in a 7-0 win at Progressive Field on May 7, with six strikeouts.

Kennedy, however, posted a 4.85 ERA in his previous two starts against the Indians, though the last of them was in 2011.

Lonnie Chisenhall (2-for-3, with a double and an RBI), Francisco Lindor (2-for-3), Rajai Davis (3-for-7) and Marlon Byrd (10-for-28, with 2 HR, 11 RBI and two walks) have fared well against him.

The Cleveland Indians have totaled 16 runs and 29 hits in their last three games, while the Royals were held to 1 run and 3 hits in Friday’s 1-6 loss, but have .347 BA, with 58 runs and 8 HR from the previous nine.

I think that we’ll see more than seven runs in the third game of this series.
