Stosur vs Davis by Igrok
Stosur (22) will play against Davis (115)
Stosur is the defending champion and comes from Rome where she went out in R2. The Australian has had a good start to the clay season, having reached the final in Prague, lost against Safarova, and making the semifinals in Madrid, lost badly against Halep.
This is the least favourite surface for Davis who prefers hard court. She comes from qualification where she won against Irigoyen and Hesse in straight sets. She struggled during the first set against Hesse.
The main problem for Davis here is her height, which is only 1.57 m. Against players like Stosur or Errani for example who use slices, she would need to hit the ball over her shoulder or very far from the baseline and this will give edge to Stosur who can wait for the mistake considering the difficulty of hitting the ball over a shoulder or use a drop shot if she hits the ball very far from the baseline. Head to head is all in favour of Stosur who won under this line on hard, which is Davis’s best surface, in 2011 and 2014.
