Djokovic vs Murray by Igrok

Rome, final, clay

Djokovic (1) will play Murray (3)

Djokovic has struggled in every round of the tournament, even the early matches. He conceded 10 games to Roberts, received a bagel in the first round against Bellucci, the match against Nadal was really close and Nishikori battled out for 3 sets. He played for more than 7 hours in Rome and has not been really dominant.

On the contrary, Murray hasn’t dropped a single set in Rome but clearly the opponents were far less strong, Kukushkin, Chardy, Goffin and Pouille. He played something like 5 hours.

The Serb holds a massive 23-9 advantage and won all the matches played on clay. Nevertheless, 4 out of these 5 matches played on slow surface went to distance. In Rome Djokovic has a better history having won 4 times the event and reached the final twice while for Murray this looks like the worst clay court event having reached the best result back in 2011, semifinal. This is a slow clay court compared to Madrid so the Serb will have the edge. Having said that, Murray has been hot this week in Italy.

Djokovic has the ability to raise his level whenever he wants but Murray has the chance here considering that the Serb won’t have enough time to recover after long matches. Mentally Djokovic is stronger but if Murray will be aggressive inside the baseline since the beginning of the match he can trouble Novak. Also Murray winning the first set is a good option in my opinion.
