Indians vs Kings XI Punjab by Rahul
Mumbai Indians are coming into his game with a good position to push for the playoffs, with 12 points from 11 games, need at least 4 more points out of 6 available to sneak through. Coming into this game they play in their adopted home of Vishakhpatnam where they have played 1 game and lost that miserably, and will want to make amends for it. Mumbai's' batting form coming into this game is good where they have put on scores of 153, 92, 161 and 178. A lot of those games have come with them hitting a lot of boundaries namely: 9, 10, 15 and 18 coming into those games. Their batting has slowly come into form other than the one blip against Hyderabad when they scores 92, but still managed to knock 10 boundaries in that game. The openers in Rohit Sharma followed by the middle order of Rayudu, Buttler, Pandya, Pollard like to start of their innings with a lot of boundaries and sixes primarily come only from Buttler and Pollard once their are set. They have batting depth all the way until no. 10 when they played the knock of 92, they still managed 10 boundaries.
Kings XI Punjab have been on the receiving end of some bad luck. They lost by 1 run in their last game to Bangalore after knocking 19 boundaries chasing 174, won a good game against Delhi by 9 runs by posting a good 181 with 15 boundaries, and lost an exciting chase against Kolkata by 7 runs while knocking 12 boundaries. This team has finally settled in its lineup after a lot of chopping and changing with Amla, Vijay, Saha, Miller, Stoinis as their front 5. All of them are good stroke players with only Vijay and Miller as being naturally gifted to go for the lofted shots, so expect a lot of boundaries to come on the ground.
The games in Visakhapatnam where today's game is being played is generally a ground with longer boundaries, so its difficult for players to clear the fence, so a lot of runs will stay on the ground. We have 30 fours in the game between Mumbai and Hyderabad which was largely one sided affair. While the game between Pune and Hyderabad saw a big chase that went down to the wire with only 18 fours in all.
Mumbai are going for the playoffs and Kings XI Punjab have to win every game from here in order to qualify. It won't be a surprise that the team winning the toss will send the opposition to bat, so that they can plan their chase but on this ground it might not be a bad thing as both chasing teams have lost.
I expect a lot of runs to flow in this from 2 sides whose batting have started to click, and whose bowling have conceded a lot, both are averaging run rate conceded 8.31, which is the old adage of one boundary per over plus singles on the remaining balls.
Over 22.5 fours should land quite comfortably, and I think it has a better chance of landing of Mumbai are batting first.
