Bouchard vs Kerber by Igrok

Rome WTA, 2. round, clay

Bouchard (46) will play against Kerber (2)

Bouchard won her first match on slow surface in Europe this season against Jelena Jankovic. She

said in the press conference "‘I knew it would be a tough battle. I have played her a couple of times before, and, you know, she gets a lot of balls back. She's tough. She stays with you. I just had to keep being tough".

‘I realized that she started controlling too many points, so in the third set I decided no matter what, you know, even if I make a couple more mistakes I need to step in and go for it. I think that made the difference.’

This is the least favourite surface for the German who comes from a bad loss in Madrid against Strycova.

Back then I predicted a long match between these two players but Strycova was just too good. The reason

for the bet was that Kerber always struggles during the first match in almost every tournament and I believe this is going to happen today. Her record in Rome is a little better than Madrid as she was semifinalist in 2012 but

nothing after that, losing her opening match in 2014 and in R2 against Begu last year. Bouchard hammered the German back in 2014 on clay although we have to say thatback then the Canadian was another player.

I don't even exclude an upset here.
