Baltimore gives the ball to Chris Tillman (3-1 with a 2.81 ERA) for Sunday’s series finale against the Oakland Athletics.

The right-hander threw seven solid innings in Tuesday’s 4-1 victory over the Yankees, allowing 1 run on 5 hits and striking out nine batters.

It’s not a surprise actually, given the fact that Tillman pitched well in most of his previous six starts this year, surrendering two or fewer runs in five of those six outings.

He’s posted a 2.25 ERA in five career starts against the A’s, holding them to 2 runs and 3 hits over seven innings in the last of them at Oriole Park at Camden Yards on Aug. 17, 2015 (4-2).

The A’s scored a season-high tying 8 runs on in the opening game of this series (8-4), but were held to 2 runs on 9 hits in the second game and to three or fewer runs in five of the last seven (2-5).

Kris Davis is 2-for-2, with a solo home run off Tillman, Mark Canha is 2-for-3, with a solo home run, Danny Valencia is 3-for-10, with a homer and 3 RBI, but Stephen Vogt, Yonder Alonso, Jed Lowrie, Marcus Semien and Billy Butler have a combined 4-for-37, though Butler has a two-run homer in the matchup.

Josh Reddick went 7-for-9, with a double and 2 RBI in the previous two games of this series, but he had been hitless in 7 previous at-bats against Tillman.

Kendall Graveman (1-3 with a 4.40 ERA), who will take the mound for the A’s, had obvious problems in his last two starts, as the 26-year-old right-hander gave up a season-high 6 runs on 10 hits and walked three over 4 2/3 innings of a 3-7 loss at Detroit on April 25 and 10 hits and 4 runs through 6 1/3 innings in Monday’s 3-4 loss to the Mariners.

Graveman was hammered for 6 runs and 8 hits in 3 1/3 innings in his previous start at Oriole Park at Camden Yards on Aug. 16, 2015 (2-18) and is 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA in two career starts versus Baltimore.

The Baltimore Orioles have totaled 9 runs on 17 hits in the previous two games of this series.

I think that the Orioles are capable to cover this handicap.
