At some point in the competition, this game could have been one of those who will decide promotion for a team. But now, with two round to go, this became only a game to play, both of them nothing to achieve more than they did it. Dijon is promoted while Red Star remains revelation of the season.
At the beginning of the season many of specialists said Red Star is the main relegation team. But Portuguese Almeida made miracles from his “no name” players and were very close for a spot on podium. Some unfortunate games in the end of the campaign ruin a fantastic season. A season when Red Star were almost all the time near to the podium, giving the sensation they are capable to finish 3rd. But their decline started when they lost at home against Auxerre (after previous round they lost undeservedly though against Nancy 0-2, playing more than 70 min with one man less and having 2 posts at 1-0 for Nancy). Then they travelled at Clermont and gave them a real lesson snatching a comfortable 2-0 win and seemed they are back on track. But 3 defeat in last 5 games (some of them incredible against relegation threatened teams 2-4 vs Paris FC and 0-2 vs Niort) put an end to their dreams for promotion. Now they are on 5th spot and maximum they can achieve, I guess, is 4th spot being 4 points behind Metz and 1 point behind LeHavre.
Dijon is clearly in vacation. After celebrating their promotion 2 rounds ago, the lost last 2 games without scoring but conceding 6 times. Making abstraction of those last 2 games, I can say they were the best team in the league (despite losing 1-3 vs Nancy). Was a team who played same football no matter the place they played, despite Nancy who had a lot of poor away games. Balanced in all compartment, they were the most attacking minded team in the league, scoring so far 58 goals and also having the best defense (ok forgetting these last 2 games). Finally, after few season at Dijon Dall’Oglio promoted in Ligue 1 and I have a lot of confidence they will not relegate after one season. Regarding last game 0-4 against Metz, I must say they were better than their opponents for more than 60 minutes of play, but some lack of motivation made them to make silly mistake in defense and allow a huge win for Metz. Well something can happen here, but really I don’t see them losing 3 games in a row. Loties is injured.
Two unmotivated teams, who performed well in this season. Despite Red Star is a team who doesn’t score many nor conceding a lot, I expect an open game from both sides, a spectacular one with plenty of goals, a game which will pleased the audience. gl
