Auxerre vs Le Havre by Alcuni
Auxerre missed once again promotion, after at the beginning of this campaign made some interesting signings. They let the impression will be there, up for promotion battle, but lost 16 points on their own pitch some of them against poor team. For most of the time they couldn’t count on their play maker Gragnic, injured since the end of last season. With him fit the team beat in last rounds Dijon, Metz – two of the promotion pretenders. But these goods results came too late to try to snatch a promotion in the end of the season. They played quite offensive in second part of the season, being many time one of the spectacular team to watch. They prove no mercy for top and also bottom teams now in the end of the season, beating along Metz and Dijon, also Sochaux a team in very difficult situation. Now in the last home game they will host another team who hopes for promotion, LeHavre – but to be honest with minimal chance to snatch it.
LeHavre have thin chances for promotion; in their duel against Metz, they need to take all points, while Metz to take maximum 2-points in latest 2 rounds. This because Metz have a better goal difference +15 compared with +8 LeHavre. I expect from LeHavre to be involved in promotion race since the beginning of the season. They were there, involved in this battle, but some incredible bad games, especially on the road, made their hopes to be, now with 2 rounds to go, almost zero. Losing 4 points in latest rounds against Sochaux and Evian – say a lot. But honestly., even I sympathize them, they don’t have a competitive rooster for Ligue 2. Also a lot of problems for them against top team from Ligue 2, losing all points in both games against Nancy, Dijon, Clermont and Red Star. So, if you are not able to beat these team I guess you shouldn’t have high hopes for promotion. When Bradley was appointed in the winter, I expected LeHavre to play same spectacular games as they did in Mombaerts & Goudet era but they failed. Anyway they remain a nice team to watch, especially playing on their own pitch. Mombris will miss due suspension, but Fortes, Duhamel and Gamboa all are back.
LeHavre players know they have no chances to reach 3rd spot. So I don’t see them playing at their full capacity. Auxerre proved to be a “bestia nera” for top team in the end of the season. So I see them taking a last win in front of their fans this season. gl
