Romania vs Lithuania by Sors

Romania’s coach Anghel Iordanescu has called 26 players for the upcoming two friendly matches against Lithuania and Spain on March 27, that are part of the preparation of this team for the upcoming European championship in France this summer.

Such a large group of players indicates that Anghel Iordanescu will try out various tactical schemes in those two games and some players like Alin Tosca (def.), Nicolae Stanciu (midf.) and Ioan Hora (forw.) will make their debut for the Romanian national team, most probably in this match against Lithuania.

However, I expect solid play in defense from Romania – a hallmark of this team over the last few years and especially during the qualifiers for the European championship, when this team conceded just two goals in ten games.

On the other hand, this team was struggling in attack in most of its games over the last two years (despite the presence of enough qualitative players in the midfield and in attack), as the hosts have scored more than one goal in only six of their last eighteen games.

Lithuania has group of twenty four players for the upcoming two friendly matches against Romania and Russia on Saturday, as some important players from the last qualifiers like Giedrius Arlauskis (goalkeeper), Marius Zaliukas (def.) and Arvydas Novikovas (midf.) are not in the squad.

In my opinion, Lithuania will hardly manage to score in this match (this team scored just three goals in the last ten away games – two of them against San Marino / 1-2-7 3/19), but Romania is also not a team, whose style of play is a prerequisite for lot of goals and the number of permitted substitutes in such games is really big, which will also affect the outcome of this match.

Since I don’t expect Lithuania to score a goal in that game, I think that 2-0 in favor of Romania is quite possible outcome from this match.
