Alajuelense vs Belen by Sors
Alajuelense are coming into this game on the back of a 0-1 loss at the hands of Limon last Sunday, second for this team in the league after 0-1 in the visit to Uruguay de Coronado in the opening round of the season.
Only a few changes have been made in Alajuelense during the break, as Diego Calvo (midf.) left in December, while the club signed with three new players in Harold Cummings (def.) from Santa Fe, Diego Madrigal (midf.) from Belen and Diego Diaz (midf.) from Limon.Diego Calvo wasn’t a regular starter during Torneo de Invierno, but the new signings brought additional quality, especially Harold Cummings and Diego Madrigal, who is leading scorer of this team with eight goals.
It is well known that the hosts have no other goal than the title in this league, Alajuelense is only two points behind the first team in the standings (Herediano) and what is also important to be noted: the hosts are without mistake at home this season, having won each of their previous seven games on this stadium against Limon (4-0), Santos (4-2), Herediano (2-1), Saprissa (1-0), U.C.R. (4-0), Uruguay de Coronado (4-0) and Liberia (4-0).
Belen is doing pretty well for a team with limited resources and with many new players in the squad, as the guests are fourth in the standings (7-4-3 18/9), with good chances to qualify for the upcoming playoffs for the title.
However, this team lacks the potential of Alajuelense, Saprissa and Herediano and is obvious that the guests rely mostly on their home games, while their results away from home are rather mediocre (2-2-3 6/6).
Alajuelense is obviously a better team than Belen, while home court advantage is another important factor for my bet.
