Spain vs Netherlands by Bulan20
Not WC but Qualification stage to European Championship and a group match between Spain and Netherlands.
The two strongest team in the group and both will advance to the main tournament, anything else would be a big surprise. Netherlands did a a great WC returning with a silver. They have kept most of the same squad and are playing with great pace and nice attacking handball. Good width and some star players that deliver when the matches get though.
Spain, silver medalist from 2014 EC is also a strong team. More defensive oriented then the dutch. Did a poor WC performance. Have had a easy time vs Bulgaria and Austria earlier in the group but when they played Netherlands a couple of days ago they had trouble stoping their quick offense. In their own offense they also had trouble coming to good situations, depending too much on Abaurrea who stood for 9 out of the 21 goals.
Home and away of course plays a big role, in 2014 qualifiers Netherlands won with 5 at home and lost with 7 in Spain. We could see something similar here but I think Netherlands have taken great steps since then and is a completely different team. Realy proved themself in WC and have continued with high level play. Netherlands have a wide range of player that can step up and had good control of the game in Netherlands even though it was "only" 13-10 in halftime. Spain needs to step up their game to come away with the win here. Netherlands secure their spot in the final tournament with a win. Netherlands also had over x2 the money in their home meeting which they won 31-21. Can Spain bring a different level at home? Sure but value is on the Dutch side. Netherlands to win is the prediction.
