Two mid table sides come face to face in this local game and I expect the home side to prevail. Altrincham have one of the smallest budgets in the division and it is a credit to the management of the club that they seem to avoid relegation every season despite being at the lower end of the table year after year. The main reason for their survival is down to their results they consistently pick up at home. Alty have picked up 23 or the 33 points they have so far this season from home matches which equates to a massive 70% of their points tally. They have only lost 3 of their 14 league games played at home this season and come into this game on the back of 2 wins and 2 draws. the last defeat Alty suffered at home was six games ago but that was way back on the 6th October! That sees them undefeated at home in their last nine games. However, what must be noted is that from the nine games 5 were draws which is why I am covering the draw.
Altrincham have no new injuries worries and manager Lee Sinnott has stressed the importance of getting as many points as possible from their back to back three home league games.
The irony of this fixture lies in the fact that both teams are as bad as each other away from home. A month into the season there seemed no prospect that Chester FC would be in the relegation scrap with 15 games to go... Chester entered September in seventh place but a campaign that began with such promise has veered badly off-course and Chester have only picked up eleven points away from home from a possible 45 on offer. They have lost ten of their 15 away games and have lost their last four games on the road. In the last four games they have also shipped in nine goals, scoring only two.
These two sides have met twice already this season. In the most recent game Alty managed a creditable 1-1 draw at Chester. Alty can also boast a 1-0 home win over tonight's visitors which saw them progress in the FA Cup. Chester are in a terrible run of form and had Alty not have had to play five away games on the bounce recently then I would have been even more confident to back them outright. However, covering the draw offers us enough confidence to get ourselves out of a slump and back to winning ways.
